The incident happened in Queens, at the 111st Street station in Corona, at around 8:15 a.m. Friday, March 14, fire officials confirmed to Daily Voice.
A 13-year-old boy was riding on the outside of a moving 7 train when he fell under the train on the elevated tracks, witnesses told investigators. The extent of the boy’s injuries were not immediately given.
The teen was rushed to an Elmhurst hospital in critical condition.
So-called subway surfing has become such a problem that Gov. Kathy Hochul and New York City leaders launched a comprehensive public information campaign against the act in September 2023.
The campaign includes announcements in stations recorded by students, digital signage across stations, student-created graphics and animations, and posters and banners across stations.
